Who is Beardy Ramblin Games?
‘Beardy Ramblin Games’ is Richard Brown — a Derbyshire-born, Sheffield-based educator who takes breaks from coding and drawing to care for a small family.
Rich released his first game in 2023 after deciding to learn how make a point and click adventure one day. That game sold over 500 copies in it’s first year. This prompted a ‘doubling down’ of efforts and a sequel.
In the summer of 2024 Rich was contacted by another Sheffield local who worked in sound design. They met up in a pub and Rich explained he was working on a much bigger and more epic adventure. Jono agreed to help out with making soundscapes and sound effects for the game.
This led to some hurdles and eventual breakthroughs. We really pushed the engine (Adventure Game Studio) to see what we could do.
Inspired by Jono’s ambition and broader knowledge of professional audio design I cobbled together some DIY systems to add dynamic panning, sound emitters and a lot of randomisation/upgrades to the audio.
I also decided to stay on music because I love it so much. In fact I uploaded a few samples of the games music here. I recorded a lot of guitar and Irish bouzouki pieces for this so it would have that fuller/real sound. I think it works well. Juxtaposed to the bizarre signature art style and left field absurd humour we now have over 30 tracks of quite beautiful folky/orchestral tracks!

What’s next?
Finish the final outing of course! Armed with nearly two years of self taught game development knowledge, Rich is on track to make this comedy gem as good as it can be. The demo is already available! This includes 2/3 hours of playtime already. I estimate the completed game will last players between 6/10 hours in total.
I’ve also cooked up some rather unique ideas to do with steam achievements and a sort of verb/Tamagotchi that I’ve already drawn, animated and implemented. We ran a playtest back in early 2025 and the results were incredibly useful. This feedback has been instrumental in making the game head in the most positive direction it can.
Roll on Winter 2025!
